CRICKET COUNCIL
— ENGLISH TEAM TJNABLE TO VISIT NEW,. ZEALAND., , By Telegraph—Press .Association, Chnstchurch, June 10. ■ At a meeting of tho Management Committee of the, New Zealand Cricket .Council to-night a letter, was received from the -seprctary: of the- Australian - Board -of Control, with reference to tho proposed visit-of an, English team. The-'writer stated that he had. received a cable message from the council as follows: "Would it be possible .to arrange the-programme for the English team to allow thorn to visit the Dominion in March?" In reply he had to state that it would- not be possible to accede to the request as the English team would bo fully, occupied with t!<e Australian programme right up to the data of sailing from South Australia, towards the end; of March. The writer mentioned that in the event of.-an Australian team visiting England at the conclusion of next season, it was probable that they, would travel by the Panama Canal- route. In that case it might be possfble to arrange a match with a - Dominion team on the days the. Australian team would bo in New Zealand awaiting departure. Tho writer wished the matter to be brought under tho notice of the council, and to know whether they would be prepared to give a guarantee, and what amount, for a two or three days' fixture as suggested.. The writer further stated that lie did not think there was any likelihood of the board or any .of the associations being able to. send a team to the Dominion next season,' in view of the English visit, but the .whole question would be gone into at the next mpc-ting of the board. Consideration of tho matter was deferred until the next meeting.
