Y ice-Kegal. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral and the Countess of Liverpool will leave New Zealand by the s.s. lonic for England towards the end of this month. Mr. Gavin Hamilton, private secretary, will proceed to Great Britain a week or two later, after completing the settlement of Eis Excellency's affairs in the Dominion. Mr. Cecil Day. official secretary, will remain in New Zealand and will act in tho fame capacity on the staff of Viscount Jollicoe, tho new Governor-Gen-eral. General Sir William Birdwood was tho guest of the Now Zealand Club at luncheon yesterday. Mr. W. M. Page, president of tho club, was in the chair, and thero was a large attendance of members. The General was given a particularly good reception, the members rising and cheering him heartily. Sit William Birdwood returned thanks in the course of a chatty and interesting speech. Colonel Porter, C.8., who has Ibeon ill for some weeks, is now making a satisfactory recovery. Mr. G. B. Dall has resigned from tho r.isition of second assistant secretary to t'« Post and Telegraph Department, /ifter 45 years' service. Mr. Dall's term of service dates back to July 5, 1875, on which date, ho joined the Department as ft cadet in Invereargill. l ? ivo vears later found him a clerk in the Dunedin office. In that office he remained a long while, rising to be senior clerk in the Money Order and Savings Bank in 1892 and chief clerk in 1901. Oil January 1, 1907, Mr. Dall moved from Dunedin on transfer l:o become Assistant Inspector of Post Offices in tlve Central district. In July of the samo year he became Inspector of Post Offices 'in the Wellington district, nnd on April 1 ho was appointed to the position of Second Assistant Secretary. Towards the end of 1918 ho proceeded to England as Inspector of Postal Services with tiie New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and returned to his former duties in the Jlead Office in October last year. Mr. Dall is not altogether severing Ms connection with tho service, as, though he resigns from tho Head Office staff, he will retain his interest in file service as a member of tho Post and Telegraph Appal Board. Mr. Dall commenced his filial annual loavo yesterday. Mr. A. B. Jordan, formerly First Assistant Deputy Public Trusteo at Christchurch, lias been appointed district inspector to tho Public Trust Department for Dunedin, Invereargill, and Tiinam. The funeral of tho late Mr. G. V. Shannon took placo yesterday afternoon. The funeral service at St. Paul s proCathedral and afterwards at tho Sydney Street cemetery was conducted by tho Veil. Archdeacon A. M. Johnson. The mourners included many leading business men of the city. Mr. S. 11. Poole, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at. Takaka, has been appointed to tho chnrgo of tho Boston branch, and will be» succcodcd at Takaka by Mr. Norman Itoss, from tho llotorua branch. Mr. W.
