The I'. and O. liner Naldera, on her maiden voyage from London to Australia, called at Fremanilo, en route to Sydniy, She is of 15,800 gross tons, length 605 ft., breadth 67ft. 2in., moulded dejith (main, dock to keel) 47ft. 4in., and i 6 driven by two sets of quadruple expansion reciprocating . engines, developing 18,000 horuo power, and a sen speed of 181 knots. Tho firet and Becond dining saloons are respectively at the forward and after ends ot the mid-ship portion of the main deck, with elaborately equipped kitchen aud culinary offices between. Both diniiiif saloons extend through tho width of tha ship, and all possible care has been expended in planting their lighting furnishing and ventilation. Communication between the successive tinrs of first saloon accommodation on the main, upper, hurrioane, and promenade .decltß is rendered easy by two electrically-driven passenger lifts, which, 011 the hurricane deck, giva access to the spacious vestibule or reception hall and tho purser's information bureau, The Naldera has accommodation in the first saloon for 426 passengers, and for 248 passengers In the second saloon, for.all of whom tho dining aaloonß provido simultaneous seating accommodation, Sho is fitted with an up-to-date gymnasium on the promenade deck, which ha« all tho latest olectrlcal apparatus necessary for thoße who desire oxorcise. Tho veeael has also an elaborate music room and divan, which are separated by a light wooden bulkhead, with plate-glass doors, and nre furnished for the utmost comfort. There are also a first-clasß smoking saloon and cafe, forward of which ar« twenty aingl.e bed cabins. Above ther* is another cafe, and all are fitted out la a most olaborate manner. Up-to-data devices for the management of the ship have been installed to ensure safety and easy handling, and cold storage is provided for the carriage of perishable cargo, A device has been applied to prevent tho racing of the engines in a heavy sea, and this should prolong their life very considerably. The ship's cabma are mada very comfortable, being enamelled white, and fitted with electric fans and reading lamps. A Bimllar Bliip to this vcssel-the Narkunda—was built by Messrß. Harland and Wolff at Belfast. Sue Is of approximately the same dimensions and general character as the Naldera, having three funnels and cruiser stern.
