There was a large attendance of country visitors at tho Burnside stock sales to-day, which was probably duo to the large' influx of rural population to tho city on account of the raccs, the show, and other fixtures. The yardings were much smaller than usual in cacli class of stock, with good competition. Sheep, and lambs particularly, sold at advanced prices, although the quality wa9 not up to the usual standard. Pat cattle—l 97 yarded. The quality on tho whole was only fair. Competition for prime cattle was good at last week's prices. Best bullocks, .£l9 10s. to ,£22 10s.: medium, ,£IG to .£l7; inferior. to Xl 4; best cows and lielfem, ,£l3 to JEIS; medium, .£lO 15s. to ill 10s.; inferior, X 9 10s. to -£10. Store cattle*—There was a full yarding. Good sorts met with a keen demand, an extra eood line from tho Lakes district bringing up to .£l6 19s. Young cattle, however, were not keenly sought after and prices for this class were easier, if anvlhtng. l'nt sheep—l 993 penned, a medium yarding. The quality on the whole was not good, very few really prime sheep being sent forward on account of tho iaiproved prospects of shipping. Freezing buyers were very active, resulting W an adavneo over last week's rates of 2s. a head on wothers and Is. Gd. a head on ewes. Prime wethers brought from 445. to 475. 9d.; medium, from I!8s. to 4£s. Gd.; light unfinished, from 3fls. up. Extra prime heavy-weight ewes realised from 525. Gd. to GOs.; prime, from 4tls. to 15s. 9d.; medium, from 335. to 38b. Gd.; light and aged, from 255. up. Lambs—9oo yarded, a small yarding of medium quality. Freezing buyers were active competitors, and were eager to secure supplies ot an advanco of 2s. a head on late rates. Values ranged from 2?s. Gd. up. Pigs—A small yarding. Bacon buyers were fully represented. Values lor bnconors wore 7s. Gd. a head Idolow last week's prices, while lighter kinds, maintained lato values. Best baconers realised from 93d. to WJd. per lb.; best porkers, 10ld. to Hid. per lb.
