RETURNS TO MELBOURNE. Melbourne, June 8. The Prince has returned after a brief country visit. Ho had a fino reception at Ballarat, where he was presented, amidst smiles, with a pair of pyjamas into which one stitch each had been ill' sertcd by 500 sirls noted for their magniflcent war work. The Prince spent a free morning. _ At mid-day. he attended a luncheon Riven by the Returned Sailors and Soldiers' League and was made patron-in-chief of the league. Then he attended the university, where the degree of LL.D. was conferred. Yesterday the Prince received from the King a rush cable messago giving the Derby result. To-day tho Prince's, passage through the city, although cheered, was uninterrupted, as' for the 'first time 6inco his arrival the newspapers did- not publish details of hi 9 movfe-ients, giving only his engagements instead of times and routes frorii one function to another. —Press Assn.
