LABOUR'S BAN ON RACING
a BREAKDOWN OF THREATENED TRAMWAY STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Juno 3. Tho threatened strike of tram way men in connection with the recent dismissal of jockeys did not affect the races today. The men booked to run. the race cars declined to leave the barn, until tho management diverted a large number of cars from other, routes to thoso adjacent' to tho racecourse. After a lapso of forty minutes, the men who had determined not to run the specials nsfjisted in. conveying racegoers, though th£ir cars had jiot tho usual destination signs. There was 110 hitch in. tho running of the race train. Tho fact that tho jockeys were riding had a deal to do with tho breakdown of tho threatened strike. Pickets were on duty trying to dissuade people from attending the races, but there ,was no apparent diminution in the erowd* bound thither.
Labour pickets worked through tho train which conveyed racegoers from Wellington to Otaki yesterday, but, as far ns could be ascertained, with "littlo success.
