PERFECT WEATHER, PREVAILS,
"King'« weather" wji6 experienced yesterday wlion the King's Birthday was observed as a close holiday, 'l'ho sun slionc brilliantly from a clear bluo sky, and there was no wind. Theso conditions made tho holiday a real relaxation, and it was enjoyed by all who could tako full advantage of the respite from winter's panes. A good many of tho public took train to Otuki to enjoy a day's racing in that pleasant locality, and there was a large attendance at tho "Ranfurly Shield Rugby match at tho Athletic Park in the afternoon. Host of tho public and Government; - buildings sported bunting, and at noon a Royal oaluto was fired, from Mount Cook in honour of His Most Gracious Majesty King George V.. whoso fifty-iiftli bivtliday was being celebrated. MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNORGENERAL. His Excellency the Governor-General lias sent tho following telegram to the Secretary of State for tho Colonies for submission to His Majesty the King:— "Oil behalf of the Government and tho people of this Dominion. I beg to convey to Tour Majesty our most respectful congratulations on the occasion of Your Majesty's birthday, together with a renewed assurance of tho loyalty and devotion of Your Majesty's New Zealand subjects to the Throne and i Empire. (Signed) Liverpool."
