TRAINING COLLEGE AND SCHOOL

PLAYING AREA WANTED. . Following up a desire'on the part of tho authorities of the Teachers' Training College and Normal School to have a suitable -playing area provided before it is too late to acquire the same, the Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr), accompanied by Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P. for the district, visited tho locality at Kelburn on Monday afternoon to see what land was available in practicable vicinity to the school; which would servo as additional playing area. Professor J. S. Tennitnt (Principal of tho Training College) met the visitors on tho spot and. suggested an area of land nearly opposite the college building. That land would need a good deal of excavation to make it practicable as a school playing ground, but there were adjacent hollows where tho spoil could be deposited to advantage, tilling two birds with the one Btone, so to speak. Tho Minister took the matter in hand right away, and yesterday, with Mr. Luke, met the representative of the. owner of the land,in question (Madame Antonia Dolores), and negotiations as to thb price are now' proceeding. Land in the vicinity of the school is becoming scarce, and if some movement is not made, at once it is almost certain that tho land (some two acres in extent) will bo cut up and built upon ere long.
