DEFENCE MATTERS
VIEWS OE RETURNED SOLDIERS.
Defence matters were considered by this annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldirs' Association yesterday, when, on behalf of tho Wellington branch, Mr. J. D. Harper moved: That this association considers that nn efficient defence scheme is essential to New Zealand as a country in itself and as part of the Empire." Mr. Harper said he thought tho association should express some opinion regarding defence matters. He did not thinir that war had been done away with, and that the League of Nations would be able to prevent fresh outbreaks of hostilities.' War was still in the air, and tho storm centre was moving round. In connection with this question, lie considered the people of ■ tho (.Dominion should consider the establishment of an officiant, repatriation scheme after men had servcd'in any other war. Ihe light of past experience should bo sufficient to guide them in this matter, Tho remit was carried.
