PESTS IN MAIZE SHIPMENT

By Teleirraph—Press Association. Tauranga, May 31. From advice received it appears that ,fhe last shipment of maize by the NaTiia from Fiji contained the augumois moth, and two kinds of weevils and beetles. The maize also was musty. It is understood that the maize was fumigated at Fiji for thirty-four hours with hydrocyanic gas, which settles most pests in one hour, but the moth came out unharmed. ■ The pests arc considered a crave menace to maize growers, and serious concern is felt at the inactivity of the Department.
