Palmerston North, May 28. Writing on March 30, from London, Messrs. Id. it cannot be said that those in authority havo seriously endeavoured to assist consumption by marketing the goods at a price comparable to condition and cost. Tho storage incurred through delay in marketing ivas unavoidably caused through tho wav and. this charge should not bo held against the goods, as with .shipments consisting of heavy quantities of cut ewes it is impossible to see how they cati meet a speedy consumption offered at the same prico as uncut, bright American sheep. Lambs meet a. good inquiry at the advanced price. The arrivals of frozen moat during January and February were— Carcasses Carcasses Qtrs. mutton. lamb. beef. South America 113.400 37,700 486,100 Australia 1,359.800 7P8.C00 37.M0 New Zealand 756,000 504,500 55,800 Totals 2,220,200 1,390,200 579,500 "Stocks of frozen sundries are still in oxcoss of demand, and prices realised for some descriptions are below the actual cost of freight and selling expenses, One or two lines of offal have sold fairly well during tho colder months, but with warmer weather in sight, tongues, suet, and kidneys appear to bo the only lines likely to show a profit to packers."
