A.S.R.S. DISPUTE
A UNANIMOUS AGREEMENT,
The Conciliation Committee, of which Mv G. K. Bullock was chairman, has concluded its examination of the dispute between the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and the management of the New Zealand Railway. At about 11 o.m. yesterday morning tlio committee reported to the Government that it had come to'a complete settler mcnt on all points in dispute, and that the agreement had been unanimous, No details are available as to the terms of claim of the railwaymen was for an ail-round increase in pay ot -s. Cd. per day. There were other demands which also would liavo heavy increased expenditure. It i>eems probable—and such little as there is.at present supports tins view—that the ..el tlement will prove, to hare been a compromise, arrived at by both sides making concessions. . . v It has been decided that no announcement of the terms will lie made until after the other sections of the dispute have been dealt with—those in which the locomotive men's society and the Railway -Officers' Institute are concerned. One or other of these disputes will come up for hearing as soon as jjossible. The seorecy arrangement can never be kept,, however, because the terms uf the agreement have to be referred to the members, of the A.s.K.fc. for ratification before thev can lie adopted, and this means that the terms will have to be disclosed to the men of the service at once.
