A PRACTICE TO BE STOPPED. By Telegraph—l'r«n Assooht.ion. Christchurch, May 27. At to-day's meeting of the Canterbury Land Board an important discussion took place in respect of transfers of Crown leases carrying a large goodwill when tho transferor has only held the lease for a comparatively short period, instances were referred to in which lessees, who had only held (heir leases for less than one year, had cpplied for transfers. In one case an increased goodwill of over ,£3OOO was shown. The applicant had got a transfer from the previous lessee last year, the goodwill paid being JJ3200. He was new asking --CB7OO as goodwill, Tho board decided that it was contrary to the policy of tho Crown to allow' trafficking in such lenses, and in future the board will not consider applications for transfer unless the applicant has held the lease for at least two years, except very special circumstances can be shown.
