CANTERBURY PRODUCE
IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT IN OAT MAKKET.
By Teießrnph-Prcpß Association. Chrittciiurch, May 25. There wa.s a new and /ather important development in connection with the oat market to-day—the sale for Australian consumption of wvoral substantial lines of both outs and chaff. The i'ted position in New South "Wales Is so grave that there is little doubt that practically all our oat and chaff production « uld he absorbed there without' any difficulty at present prim, and it is in this p respect that the deal opens up lalhsr wide possibilities. The immediate result will bo a firming in local prices, vajes recorded to-dav were, on' the basis of as. lid., s.i., fo.b.', for B grndo Girtons, equal to os. Id. at country stations, and £w Ijs„ equal to about .£7 10a. at, country stations, for chaff. Whilst 'ho l.,ck of shipping is stagnating operations with tho North. Island, there is. hW. likelihood of this trouble presenting itself with- regatd to Australia. The potato market is much depressed. Yields of un tons and over are quite general. Canterbury has had an unusually prolific crop, mid should tho Australian emCargv bo continued for anv length of time, tho result will be a probability of waste or low wiceshere. In tWe meantime farmers mo pitting, though a fair amount of busmess has been done at J® 10s. to SA 15s. for immediate delivery. It is reported that onions are freely purchase on the basis of M at country stations. The quality in some cases is not very good, the onions bc-iug left over-long in-The open.
