NOTES AND COMMENTS

By Glencob.

' A final reminder is given pwnerß that acceptances for the first days events at the Otaki Meeting must be in the nan<u .of Secretary 0. J. D'Ath by" 8.30 to-nMit. Entries for.the Napier Park Meetine close on Friday next. _ Thoueh he has incurred ft 51b. penalty bv winning at Wangauui ' tho opinion U general that Lochella will, at El erslie, again beat all the horses he met; in the Century Hurdles. 0. Christie has tho National winner in great heart, and he looKs bigger and stronger than ever. In the Century Hurdles he hit the fence in front of the stand very heavily, but it made absolutely no difference to him and did not even cause. him to alter his stride. •A. M'Aulay passed, through Wellington last week-end on his way to Jlastln?s, whore he is to take ehargo ol Mr. G, D. jeatson's team. , The imported Barberry, by Bayardo, who proved a disappointment as a- racehorse, in now being used as a rtation hark at Hunterville. . The Wanganui Btudmastcr, Mr. John Hav. hRB purchased from Mr. h. A. Connolly, of Melbourne, the imported home Cyntoi, who coat lOOOgns. in Sydney, tut was unreliable as ft racehorse. Cyntoi possesses a rare pedigree, i being by Santol from Lady Cynosure, a 'sister to Polymelia, and he should prove a stud success. After winning the Century Hurdles at Wanoanui Lochella was entrained the next day for Ellerslie. The consensus of opinion is that the Dunedin-owned gelding will notvfail in his first essay at Ell erslie. but the steeplechase course, which is a tricky one. may trouble a horse that goes oier it for the first time, thoinrh it should bo said that this was not the experience of Master Lupin, who won the raoe last year, and had not been schooled over the hill. Tho Hawke's Bay Jockey Clubs Wintor Meeting will this year be held in conjunction with the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club, and will bo a three days' fixture. It will be held on June 23. 24. and 26. Amongst tho entries lor tho pteoplcchaßO events at the Qisborne Meeting are Pooman, First Line.'Sir Donald, and PaworuDiavolo and All Talk, who are at present in Dunedin, have been entered lor the Gisborne fixture, but apparently their owner overlooked the date of the northern fixture, which is set down for June 10. This makes it impossible for tho horses named to get to the meeting.. , F Tilley has decided not to' send any of his team to the Otaki Meeting, and tbey have been withdrawn from all engagements. ,
