OBJECT OF ENZELLI ATTACK
RECOVERY OF INTERNED SHIPS
By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright (Rec. May ?6, 0.5 a.m.) Delhi, May 24. Tho seizure <f Baku proved the prelude to a renewal of Bolshevik activities in the Caspian area. Tho object of the attack on Enzelli ou May 18 was the recovery of some ships of tho Russian volunteer army which had mado their way thither from Baku and been interned. The Soviet commander demanded tho ships, declaring that ho had no designs against tho British, and promised to retire from Enzelli when ho had achieved his purpose. In order to avoid a collision tho British forces wero withdrawn pending negotiations between the British and tho Soviet commander. All was quiet in licsht and Enzelli on May 20, but further activity was reported in the direction of Astara, a Caspian Sea port on the Persian frontier, a hundred miles north of Enzelli. -Aus.-N.Z.
