"HONEST AND STRAIGHT"
THE BRITISH MANUFACTURER,
"So far as advertising New Zealand business is concerned," remarked His Majesty's Trade Commissioner in Now Zealand (Mr. E. W. Dnlton), inspeaking at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Chwiilier of Commerce, "you may lake it that" the Dominion has been advertised in such a war (luring the last five years that she will bo well looked 'after by the British manufacturer." Jlr. Daltoii added that his experience at Home was that immediately ono mentioned Now Zealand thore was-a light in tlio eye of the British manufacturer and other exhibitions of the keenest interest and sympathy for tJio Dominion. Tho reason, he discovered, was that tho bearing of the New Zealand soldiers during their sojourn in England had spread throughout the length and breadth, of tho country nn intense liking for tho littlo Dominion. He-assured his audience that they would find that the British manufacturer was. prepared to supply tho New Zealand trado more ■readily than almost any other countrv in tho world. As a matter of fact, ho believed that the Dominion was already receiving a bigger proportion of English exports than any other country. "You send," ho continued, 'a 100 per cent, order and receive, say, 20 .per cent., while most others loceivo only 15 per cent." Onco the British manufacturers got buck really into their stride they would "sweep tho Dominion" with their output until thev had recaptured their pre-war filinrc (75"por rent.) of our import trade. Kt present their ratio was only M per cent. The British nmnufaotmers were keen, and, above all, they wero honest and straight. Ho believed that from 9S por eont. "of tho manufacturers of England, Now Zetland had had a straight deal. For Hint reason he was confident that ultimately they would win back their lost trade—once they wero in a position to take again thoir place in the world market.
