INDUSTRIAL UNREST
REMEDIES SUGGESTED BY MR. GOMPERS. (Rec. May 24, 10.45 p.m.) Washington, May 24. Samuel Gompers (president of tho American. Federation of Labour) has suggested five remedies for tho present industrial unrest in the United States, nnmely: Immediate adjustment of wages; effective action to prevent the continued increase in the cost of living; stoppage of all anti-strike legislation; Congress immediately to consider a proposal that credit and capital should be taken from the hands of privnto financiers and placed in a public trust and administered on the co-operative principle; Congress to provide 1 immediately for full publicity of income tax retains.—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. RAILWAY TROUBLE THREATENED IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. (Hie, May 24, 9.50 p.m.) Adelaide, May 24. Serious railway trouble is threatened owing to the demand of the men for increased wages. If the Government refuses to grant increases a strike ballot will be taken.—Press Assn.
