GENERAL BIRDWOOD
. RECEPTION NEXT TUESDAYEVENING. ■■ The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has ar--ranged that tie civic reception to General' Birdwood, who is to arrive from Sydneyon Monday next, shall take placo in tiho Town Hall on Tuesday evening next at 8 o'clock. In explaining why the evening had been decided upon, Mr. Luke said that whilst General Birdwood was a man every citizen wished to honour, ho was a man who was Iheld in cspecial regard bythe men , who fought on Gallipoli, ana as there were many probably in Wellington who could not manage to attend in the daytimo owing to their work, ne' thought it was best to hold the Tecop-; tion in the evening when everybody could be present. Speeches of a duration not longer than fivo minutes each would bo the order of the evening, and tho Mayor was inviting tho Prime Minister (Eight Hon. W. F. Massey), Mr. W. D. S. MacDonald, and representatives of the Returned' Soldiers' Association to attend on the platform. The Mayor said that lie understood that General Birdwood _ was only to spend three days in Wellington.
