Tho Hou. G, J. Anderson has returned from the South Island, and has taken up his duties as Minister of Internal Affairs. ;ILe is occupying tho office in Old Parliament Buildings formerly used by tho Hon. J. A. Hanan. His secretary is Mr. F. M. Sherwood. Tho Rev. Dr. G. E. Weeks, Dean of Nelson, returned, from Sydney yesterday afternoon. The Eev. T. Yuillc, of Knox Church, Dunedin, arrived in Wellington by tho "Ulimaroa yesterday from Sydney. Mr. T. Malier, of Hobart is visiting New Zealand. Ho arrived on the Sydney boat yesterday afternoon. Captain W. Attwell, N.Z.S.C., M.8.E., for the past seven years commander of No. XI Group, Raugiora, ha.s been transferred to Auckland to take charge of No. 1 Group. Mr. C. A. Jeffery, who was privato secretary to the Hon. J. B. lline before tho elections, -liias joined tho secretarial staff of tho Prime Minister. : 'J'he secretary of tho Wellington liducation Board (Mr. G. L, Stewart) is still absent from his duties owing to indisposition. At last report he was making a satisfactory recovery. Mr. F. T. Webb, of Bulls, whose death occurred at Midhivst last week, was 86 years of age. In his younger days ho was a man-o'-ivarsman, anil passed through tho perils of the famous Russian campaign and served in the China War, Ibeing present at. the taking of the Tnku Forts, and participating in tho march to Peking. Coming to New Zeahe settled in the liangitikei district where he was widely known and highlly esteemed. He was a prominent Freemason and Oddfellow. He left a daughter (Mrs. M'lvor) and four sons (Messrs. G. Webb, Levin; F. W. Webb, Douglas; H. Webb, Awakino, ahd C. Webb, Sydney). Mr. Horace Hunt, tho ex-Wellington pianist, just back from Germany and England, has been engaged to tour with tho concert company that is to bo headed by Miss Gertrude Johnson, of Melbourne (late of the jWilliamson Grand Opera Company). Mr. G. A. Hurley is making a good recovery after amputation of his hand at the Davis Street Hospital last Saturday. Tho Eev. Jl- Franklin, M.A., diocesan organising secretary, has licen appointed vicar of St. Mary's, Hawera. Tho following have been among the recent visitors to the Tourist Department's bureau in Wellington :—Edgar M. Gibson, Brisbane; Mr. and-Mrs'. T. Hally Brown, Skelmorlie, Scotland; A. E. M. Donnell, Singapore; A. C. Lawson, Victoria; Peter Lawson, Victoria; D. C. Nixon, Toronto; Una N. Davidson, Brisbane; Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Jaggar, Vclcanoe House, Hawaii; Laura M'Mamis, Sydney; W. N. and M. D. Turner, Victoria; Harry Collison, London; J. Howard Quigley, Ontario, Canada. Mr. R. T. Riley, of Winnipeg, a director of the Canadian National Railway System, and Mrs. Riley, aro at present visiting Auckland. Their tour is solely for pleasure. Mr. and' Mrs. Riley came from Vancouver to Australia' by the Canadian Importer. They are to rejoin her in Auckland. Mr. Riley describes her as "the ice-cutter" of the new Cana-(lian-Australasiau trade, of wliich ho holds the highest hopes. Apart from duties as director cf_ this important railway board —which, incidentally, per-1 forms tho functions of a shipping board as well—he has important banking and insurance interests. Mr. A. L, Berry, district manager of the Public Trust Office, Dannevirke, has been transferred to Taihape. At the Merchant Service Guifd rooms yesterday, the coastal captains presented Mr. E. Quinlan. with a Morris chair on the occasion of his retirement on superannuation from the Harbour Board's ser vice, Captain F. A. Macindoe and others testified to tho high esteem in which tie was held.
