NEW ZEALAND CLUB
, BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING, The annual meeting of tho New Zealand Club was held yesterday evening. In the absence of the president (Mr. W. E. Spencer) Mx. William M. Page occupied tho chair. There was a fair attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet (already published), Mr. C. E. Wheeler said that it was a matter for congratulation that there were no unpaid subscriptions. This spoke volumes for the ability of tho lion, secretary-treasurer (Mr. G. 0. Sutton), arid it was also indicative of the fact that members realised .that they were getting very good value out of their association with the club. The motion was carried. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron, His Excellency the Governor-General j president, Mr. William.M. Page; past presidents, Messrs. C. -E. Wheeler and W. E. Spencer; vice-presidents, Messrs. B. 1. Atkins and E. S. Baldwin; committee, Messrs. F. S. Pope, C. M. Luke, A. J. Talbot, L. Birks, and P. Levi; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. 0. Sutton; hon. auditor, Mr. D. E. Beaglehole. Mr. W. Greig brought up the question of fostering interest in the arts and sciences of the Dominion itself, a matter which, he pointed out, had hitherto been overlooked. In the past only visitors to the. Dominion had been entertained. Ho suggested that- the incoming committee might well devote somo attention to the matter. Mr. Wheeler stated that last year, out of twelve guests entertained by the club ten were New Zcnlanders. There was a danger of becoming involved in controversial topics, if more New Zealand subjects were associated with the club's programme. '
