PETONE MAGISTRATE'S COURT
♦- —_ Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided over the monthly bitting of the Vetone Magistrate's Court yesterday. William Waiting was fined £5 and 16s. 6d. costs for driving a motor-lorry at an excessive speed through Jackson Street. Sibun, Ltd,, were proceeded against for selling butter which was_ not properly labelled. The butter was overweight and of good quality. If is Worship said there was apparently no intention to defraud, but as the statute required that the packages must be wrapped in labels showing the vendor's name and the weight of tho butter, a conviction would be entered, and defendant fined £1, with costs 7s. Olark and il'Leod were fined £2, with costs 75.. for having sold bread under weight. J. W. M'Ewan was ordered to pay 7s. costs for having sold honey in a jar which was not labelled. The honey was of good quality and full weight. Sarah Sims was granted a separation order against her husband on the grounds of cruelty and failuro to maintain. Costs, £1 Is., were allowed against defendant. An application by Elizabeth Bush ior a maintenance order against her husband, Frank Bush, a farm labourer, was dismissed on the ground that plaintiff had loft defendant in accordance with a mutual agreement. A tenement caso, Annie M. Hobba v. Peter Moloney, a claim for £27 10s. and possession of a dwelling, was ndourncd until the next sitting of the Court. The application of Annie Cox for possession of a dwelling occupied by i'red Totley vftti refused. In the afternoon tho Court was occupied with tho hearing of the ease Petone "Chronicle" v. G. 0. Warren and J. J. Clark, a claim for £45 for work done. Judgment was given for plaintiff for tho amount claimed, with eosW. Mr, A. Pero appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. W. i/erry for the defendants.
