The report mentioned that durinjr tho operation of the Military Service Act, over one hundred appeals were dealt with by the.executive, according to tho arrangement'made with the Minister of JJetence,-and the executive was.grati-hed-to be. able to report that the military service boards granted all its claims ior exemption-. following the reading of n paper by ll r - I: Armstrong- upon "Our Duty.emd the .Mate, it was resolved:- "That this association advocates a division of dental hygiene being established under tho Minister of-Health, and that the director shall _be a dentist." ' ; During the afternoon, clinical demonstrations were given by Messrs. G W Wright J. N. Eishworth, and Nelson Mitchell, and an interesting exhibit of mechanical work in v dentistry by students .of the Otago Dental School was explained by Mr. 0. V. Davies. There was an important discussion upon a paper by Mr. Richmond Dunn, "Public .Health and State Dentistry," among tho speakers being Dr. E. H. Wilkins, chief medical officer, of the Department of Education. IB was unoni- ■ m'ously resolved at the conclusion: "That it be a recommendation of this conference to the incoming executive that a committee be sot up to review the present stato of scientific knowledge, and to discuss methods of dealing with the mouth."
