LACK OF MINISTERIAL STUDENTS
WAR ONE OP THE CHIEF CAUSES. (Reo. May 18, 7.25 p.m.) . Sydney, May 18. Both the Presbyterian-, and the Methodist General Assemblies are confronted witn a serious shortage ofi men offering the ministry. One of the chief caus;'B is said to be the war, which, besides drawing students to the front, interfered with the training of others. As regards the Presbyterians it was stated that th; war had broken the churchgoing habit of many young men, and that the mental and physical strain of the war years was causing the exhaustion and consequent loss of ministerial candidates, but it was hoped tlmt the lost ground would soon be rec6vered. The Methodißt Conference has deoided to meet the shortage by importing from England thirty-five ex-service theological unmarried students. As regards the immigration bureau, it was decided to seek the co-operation of other t churches in the scheme, including a possible arrangement with the New Zealand Methodist Conference.—Press Assn.
