NEW ZEALAND CLUB

ANNUAL EEPOET.

The following is the annual report of the New Zealand Club to be presented at the annual, week:— "The committee is glad to report that during the past year the club showed a thorough recovery from the handicapsplaced upon its activity by war condi'fions. The number of luncheons hgld was equal to the tire-war average, and we have reason to believe tmit members fully appreciated the addresses delivered by our distinguished guests. Tho complete' list of guests is as follows:— Brigadier-General G; S. Eicharsdon, Genoral Officer commanding , New Zealand Forces in the United Kingdom, Eight Hon. W. P. Massey, Prime Minister, and Eight Hon. .Sir Joseph Ward, Minister of Finance in the National Government, upon their return from the Peace Conference; Viscount Jellicoe, Admiral of the Fleet, and officers of H.M..S New Zealaud, Major Hine, M.P., Major Coates, M.P., Captain Seddon, M.P., and Lieutenant W. Downie Stewart, M.P.cu their return from active service, .MajorGeneral Sir Andrew Russell, . K.C.8., 1-K.C.M.G., .officer commanding New Zealand- Forces in France, Major-Gcneral Sir E. W. Chaytor, K.C.M.G., C.8., commandant New Zealand Forces, Mr: Edgar Home, M.P., Guildford Division, Surrey, Professor P. W. Robertson, M.A., Ph.D. (a Rhodes scholar) of Victoria College, Dr. Guy It Scholefield, lately representative of New Zealand Associated Press in London, the Hon. Sir James Allen, on leaving to take the office of High Commissioner for New Zealand in London.

•"The committee .endeavoured to secure an acceptance by i His Royal Highness the" Prince of Wales of an invitation to a club luncheon, but as it had been decided by the advisers of His Royal Highness strictly to confine his engagements to a limited programme, owing to .'the brief time available, the club was unable to extend its loyal hospitality to the Royal guest. -During the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand in August last, •the'committee, on behalf of the members, presented to the ship a set, 1 of silver, letters to be affixed to the steering wheel, bearing the. motto: 'Alee, Ake, Ake, Kia Kahn.' This wa9 duly placed on.the wheel, with a plate indicating the source of the., gift, and' we were assured, by tho officers that they highly appreciated this -very appropriate token'of the, famous cattle-cruiser's close association with the Dominion. We regret having to record the death of a valued.member, Mr. James Macintosh, during- tho vear. Six members have resigned during this period, thirty-nine have been elected, which makes the net membership at the close of the venr, 280. The club's membership is strictly limited by the catering facilities at lunoheons, and the committee has had to give this matter constant attention, in view of the largo number of candidates for membership. The balance-sheet to be 'submitted at the annual meeting shows that the club commenced, the year with a credit of i'4B Is.'ld. Including this amount, the total Receipts were. JC22I Is. 10d., and expenditure iIG3 Gs. Id.,.leaving a credit balance at the close of the year of .£57 15s. Oil. There are no outstanding liabilities, and no'unpaid subscriptions. The last fact is an admirable testimony to tho I virility of the. club, and the efficiency of our lion, secretary-treasurer."
