BROOKLYN NOVICE RACE. Tho Brooklyn Olub held their novlco race of two miles and a, halt at Miranmr on Saturday, under- ideal conditions. Fifteen runners faced the starter. T.m limit men making the best of their handicap, set a solid pace, ilnrchmant nnrf Billing were in tho front at the end oi a mile, with the scratch lnen comfnir through fast. ~ At the Gas Works Billing went to the front, and maintained this position till the straight was reached, •when Mitchell came with a determined challenge. Smilie being 20 yards away. 3n a great finish Mitchell lasted long enough to beat Smilie by two yards. Billinir was one yard furthtyr back. Result:—A. Mitchell, 15sec, 1: N. Smilie. ssec, 2; H. Billing, 35sec, 3. Time, 14min. 45scc. After the raco members and supporters sat down to an enjoyable afternoon lea. Captain Robinson congratulated the winners; and commented on tho fino finish, and urged members to train hard in view of tho team's visit to Duncdin to take part in th/ei Edmond Cup Teamu' Race on June 12 '
