THE P. AND 0. BANK
WELLINGTON SHARES.
Wellington applications for shares in tho new P. and 0. Banking Corporation closed on Wednesday. The applications were for a fairly large sum, although no prospectus of the bank had been reoeived in tliis city. The announcement that the P. and 0. Steamship Company had formed a banking corporation was made in London at the end of last year, and aroused much interest. The new corporation is to have an authorised capital of ,£5.000,000, with ,£2,000,000 paid up. Lord Inchcape is to be chairman, and the head office of the bank will be in London. Business, is to be done by thei bank at the porta where the P, and O. Company and its associated companies operate, in the East, Australia, and elsewhere. It is not known definitely if a branch will bo established in New Zealand. Several well-known British banks aro co-operat-ing with the P. and O. Bank.
