BURNSIDE MARKET

By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, May 12. On account of the visit of tho Prince of Wales to Dunedin next week it was decided by the authorities concerned to ■ hold a double sale at Burnside to-day. This arrangoment resulted in exceedingly ' largo yardings of stock toeing offered, particularly sheep and cattle. Fat Cattle.—A very largo yarding, close on 400 head being offered. The quality of the stock was (jjood, the greater proportion- being medium and primo steers and heifers. The yarding, however, was in excess of requirements, and although butchers required a fortnight's supply prices were from 10s. to 15s. a bead Delow those ruling at last week's market. The ruling prices to-day were:—Prime bullocks ,£2O to .£24, medium' .£l7 to ,£l9 55., light and unfinished .£lO to ,£ls, prime cows and heifers ,£l4 to i!IG ss„ medium .£ll to i£l2 10s., .light and aged .£8 to ,£lO 10s. Sheep.—An excessive yarding, a total of 5058 head being penned. The quality was only moderate. 'Tho greator part of the yarding consisted of secondary and i inferior class sheen. Competition was fairly good for all primo sheep, but f values wero a little below last week's rates. Ewes were Is. Gd. to Is. a head lower. Extra prime heavy-weight wethers brought up to 575., prime 425, to 4!)5., medium 85s. to 416., lighter kinds 28s. upwards; extra prime heavy-weight ewes brought from 50s. to 525. Gd., prime 40s. to 455., medium 345. to 385., light and aged 245, npwards. Fat -Lambs.—A small yarding of fair quality, numbering 74G head. It was expected that freezing buyers would bo in tho market, and that lato values would be fully maintained. Store Cattle—A full. yarding, which met with a lifeless demand. Freezing buyers and meat preservers wero not operating, and on account of the prospective scarcity of winter feed farmers and graziers were not anxious to buy. These conditions resulted in prices being 10s. per head below late rates, and a number of pens wore passed out unsold. Pigs.—A email yarding. Competition was fairly, keen, and the prices realised were well rap to last week's rales. Best baeoners brought from lOd. to lid. per lb;, and beat porkers from 10td. to lljd. per lb.'
