Pour I voung men and three boys appeared be- • fore the Magistrate to-day on several • arising out of the affair. The I men (Antony Howley, Honry Shaw, Ken- - ueth Newlands, and David Millar) were - first oharged with wilful damage estit mated at XGG 13s. Gd. on the shop of I Willio Young and Co., with throwing-' - missiles to the danger of the .public, and 3 with threatening behaviour with intent i to oau6o a breach of the peace. Howley, f was also charged with an assault on one of tho Ohine.men. On the application of counsel for tho defendants the charges wore taken separately. Tho caso against ■ Howley was nrd. taken. A Chinese in--1 terpretor from Wellington assisted the o Court. The principal witnesses were two Q women customers, \yho deposed that How--0 ley started tho disturbance by pulling B over a bog of onions at tiio door, and 0 others then threw the onieus at tho Chinamen, who went out to yvak tl\finx [' up, Stones were also thrown, 'broakinjr g a window. There was no disturbance till the onions wore pulled over, somo ono U having tied a string to the bag for the . purpose Howley was committed for trial, 3 bail being fixed at J225. The case against Shaw was dismissed without prejudice on an alibi, Tho other cases wore adjourned. it till Thursday d - ——
