. MAGISTRATE TO DECIDB, By TclccraDh—Press Association. Christchurch, May ». It is understood that the authorities in Wellington liavo authorised legal proceedings being taken against several Christchurch iirnis, who are alleged to have been making unreasonable profits 011 stocks they have in hand. Tho informations will come before :he Magistrate's Court, probably next Wednesday. The prices being charged for imported alarm clocks will form, it is stated, one of the principal matters to bo investigated, but other questions of general interest to traders will arise cut of tlie Magisterial inquiry. Ono of these is tho replacement cjuestion—whether an importer is justified in charging a jrice for goods in stock, 'bought at a price lower than the now current price, equal to that which ho would charge if he replaced his stock at current prices, Another matter of interest to traders generally which is likely to arise out of tho local prosecutions is with respect to the fixation of prices bjr manufacturers, and the contract, cither implied or expressed, that tho dealer shall not sell tho. article ut a lesser price than that fixed by tho manufacturer. »•
