TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME

CiVIC RECEPTION IN TOWN HALL MILITARY REVIEW AT NEWTOWN PARK 12.30 p.m.—Leave Government House for civic reception at Town Hall. Route to be Kent Terrace, Courtcnay Place, Manners Street, and Lower Cuba Street. 1.30 p.m.—Ministerial luncheon at Bellamy's. 3.45 p.m. — Military Review at Newtown Park. Presentation war decorations, etc. Courtenay Place route. 9 p.m.—VicerEegal Ball at Government House. To-day's programme will bo a very full one. The first official proceeding will be the hoisting of the Prince's flag at Government House at '8 a.m. This will signify that His Royal Highness has taken up his residence there, and immediately tho Eoyal Ensign has been "broken" on the breeze a saluto of Mventy-one guns will be fired by the battery at Mount Cook. 'No other salutes will be fired during the day. The civic reception will take place at the Town Hall shortly after half-past 12 this afternoon. The Princo will leave Government nouso for tho Town Hall at 12.30 p.m., and will proceed via Kent Terrace, Courtenay Place, Manners Street, and Lower Cuba Street. A guard of honour will be provided at the Town Hall by two officers and _ one hundred, men from the sth l (Wellington) Regiment. Captain J. N. Rauch, M.C., will command the guard of honour, and Lieutenant H. J. R. Mackay will carry the King's Colour. No invitations have been issued for the civic reception, and tho whole of the body of the hall and the galleries will bo thrown open to the public. As the Lower Cuba Street entrance to the hall must be reserved for the entry of tho Prince and his party, the public will be admitted on the Wakefield Street side of the building. It will bo a case of "first come, first served," and those who desire to witness the reception should make a point of getting down earlv, as there is bound to bo a big assemblage of people. In all probability tho doors will be thrown open at eleven o'clock. Certain holders of tickets. such as Ministers of tho Crown, members of the Judiciary, city councillors. and members of the Harbour Board, will be accommodated in the space at the back of the platform.

. Only One Address. The reception will not last an ; hour. Only one address will be read.—the loyal greetings from the citizens of Wellington. which will be read by His Worship die Mayor (Mr. J. P. _ Luke, C.M.G., M.P.). To this the Prince will make a brief reply. A number of other addresses from local bodies and religious and other societies will be presented, but their contents will not be read. During the proceedings an appronriate 1 ode of welcome will be sung by a Welsh choir. Ticket-holders for the reception will enter the Town Hall by the Mercer Street door. Luncheon and Review. The next function will be tho Ministerial luncheon to (lib Prince at Bellamy's, which will take placo at 1.30 p.m. On leaving tho Town Hall, tho Prince will proceed to Parliament House via Lower Cuba Street, Manners Street, Willis Street, nnd Lambton Quay: In tho afternoon at 3.15 the big spectacular event of the day will take place —tho military review at Newtown Park. Tho route tho Prince will-follow to the Park will be Lambton Quay, Willis Street. Manners Street, Courtenay Placo, "Kent Terrace. Dufferin Street, Adelaide Road, and Eiddiford Street. Between 9000 and 10,000' troops will bo present at the review, as well as a number of returned sailors and soldiers, nurses, nnd members of the V.A.D., W.R.N.A.S., W.R.A.F.A., and W.A.A.C. The review will be tho greatest function of its kind ever seen in Wellington. Tho troops will assemble at tho following points at tho times stated, and will march to Newtown Park:—Veterans, Newtown Park, 2.30 p.m.; Eeturned Sailors, junction oi Adelaido Road nnd Rugby Street, 1.15 p.m.: Eeturned Soldiers, B?.sin Reserve, 1.15 p.m.; N.Z.A.N.S., V.A.D.'s, etc., Newtown Park, 3 p.m; Territorials, Garrison Hnll; Buckle Street, 1.15 p.m.; Senior Cadets, at various points, as advertised. The N.Z.A.N.S. members aro instructed to report, lo the matron-in-chief at 3 p.m. at Newtown Park. Mess dress, , hat, cape, and gloves must lie worn. Members 'of 'the' V.A.D., W.R.N.A.S., W.R.A.F.A.. and W.A.A.C, are also instructed to report to matron-in-chief nt the same time and place, which will be tho east side of the park, below the shelter-shed.

Military units which will participate in tho review will bo as follow:—6th (Manawatu) Mounted Rifles, D Battery, Garrison Artillery, No. 1 Company Ficid Engineers, Divisional Signallers, Railway Engineers P. arid T. Engineers, sth (Wellington) Regiment, , No. 3 .Company N.Z.A.S.C., No. 4 Company Field Ambulance. No. 1 Battalion Senior Cadets (Wellington College, St. Patrick's College, Scots' College, Banks College), No. 2 Battalion Senior Cadets (Nos. 31, 38, 10, 30. 35, and 107 companies), No. 3 Battalion Senior Cadets (Nos. 17, 32, 21, 26, 27. 33, 3d, 41, and 12 companies), The Veterans and Returned Sailors nnd Soldiers will be drawn up ; in front of tho .parade. Lieutenant-Colonel R. St. ,T. Beere, Commanding Officer of the sth Regiment, will be in charge of tho parade, Captnin W. M. Bell, N.Z.S.C., being Staff Officer.

On the arrival of His Royal Highness tho parade will come to attention; slope arms, and then give the Eoyal Salute. In giving this the unit colours will be lot fly, the bugle will sound "G," and with the troops remaining with arms at the "present" the colours will be lowered. The remainder of the troops on parade will stand at attention, and Returned Soldiers will remove their hats. During this tho band will play six bars of the National Anthem. The parade will then slope arms, and His Royal Highness will inspect- tho troops. When this is completed the parade will give three, cheers for the Prineo of Wales, all removing their head dress and raising it to the full extent of the left arm for the purpose. The parade will then como to attention, slope arms, repeat the Royal salute, slope arms, and then stand at ease, concluding the proceedings.

"Durini! the review His Royal Highness will present twenty decorations to returned soldiers, including four French honours. After the review, His Royal Highness will return to Government House vin Riddiford Street, Adelaide Road, and Dulfcrin Street. Vice-Regal Ball. The (lay's proceedings will conclude with the Yice-Regal ball at Government House at 9 p.m. Motor-cars will enter Government House grounds by the entrance in Dufferin Street, and the same procedure in regard to the departure of cars-will be observed as in the caso of provious functions of .the kind. RETURNED SOLDIERS' PARADE. ■ 'i'iie parade of returned soldiers is to asscmblo in the Basin Reserve nt 1.15 p.m., and an appeal is made to all returned men ito display their loyalty by turning out in largo numbers. The parade will bo in mufti except for tlioso who are to receive decorations, mul theso men are asked to parade in uniform. Soldiers who have already had their war medals issued to them are asked to wear them, and others will wear the ribbons of the medals they aro entitled to. It is estimated that about 3000 or 4000 returned men will take part in this parade. The casket presented to tho Prince m Auckland by the Government of New Zealand, and which was made in the Government workshops in Wellington, will bo on view in Messrs Littlejohn'S window, Lambton Quay, to-day. _In tho Fedoral House of Representatives Mr. W. jr. Hughes introduced a Bill approving an agreement Ix-twcen the Commonwealth and tho Anglo-Persian Oil Company. Tho company is to form a refinery company with a capital of half n million, in which tho Commonwealth is to be tho largest shareholder, arid is to erect works for refining oil, and <to.develop tho oil industry in Australia. The ,Commonwealth has tho option of purchasipg/tha works at tho ond of fifteen years.
