A WET APRIL

HEAVIEST RAINFALL SINCE 1896. Tlio rainfall for April in Wellington was tlio heaviest since 1896. ' It measured (Thorndon gauge) 5.77 inches, which is phenomenally heavy, seeing that the mean rainfall for April in this city is 3.89 inches. Thus over double the amounsl of rain fell compared with what Wellington is accustomed to. During the month of April rain fell on fifteen days. Tlio wettest day was April 27—last Tuesday— when 2.20 inches fell. On April 7 a fall of 1.94 inches was recorded, and on April 8, the rainfall was 1.35 inches. . The Wellington College gauge showed, tho rainfall for April as 9.09 inches. It is interesting to notice month by month that the rainfall registered on tho slopo of tho hill at the. back of the college is always heavier than that recorded on tho flat at Thorndon, two miles away, probably accounted for by topographical variation. The college report gives the fall as 9.09 inches in comparison to 2.09 inches in April, 1919, and 2.12 inches in April, 1918.
