ASIATIC IMMIGRATION

AUCKLAND WATERSIDERS' PROTEST. By Tolecranh—Press Association. Auckland, April 28. At a meeting of the Auckland watersiders to-day, the following resolution was adopted "This meeting' views with alarm the continued influx- of Hindu and Chiiieso immigrants. It considers that the time lias arrived when a halt must bo called, for the following reasons: (1) That the inHui of Asiatics into this country ciin only have one ending—the lowering of the standard of living of the workers; (2) the fusion of Asiatics and whites will produce a piebald population; (3) such immigration .is unfair competition in all trades and callings; (4, if immigration ; s 'permitted, by all means give preference to England, Ireland or Scotland. We condemn tho Government for its failure to cope with tli.'s serious menace, and favour a white and not a piebald New Zealand."
