In reference to the manure shortage, the executivo of tho Wairarapa Branch of the Farmers' Union has written as follows to tho Agricultural Department "This executive of the .Farmers' Union wishes to impress on the Department itlie urgent necessity for importing supplies of 'basic slag, superphosphate, and potash manures. The want of manure is starving the soil, and causing decreased production, which further means tho raising of the cost of living. Wo wish to protest against the sending out of ships to New Xoaland in water ballast wliilo supplies of basic slag arc availablo in the Old Country for exportation. It is imperative that tho supplies from Nauru Island should bo available to producers at the earliest opportunity.
