CHORAL SOCIETY
ft . (To the, Editor.) 1 Sir,—The remarss of your correspondent "Prowess" in this, morning's Dominion regarding the membership campaign of the Wellington Choral Union shoiilcl be of interest to all true Welluigtoriians. It certainly, to mv mind, not joo much to expect, ttiat tho' Choral Society of our capital city should number three 'hundred ■members, seeing th'nt there is no rival body to bo considered. _ There must be numbers of excellent choristers here who would 1)0 only too glad to take up this work. For f'.hirty years past the children in our schools liave had a most excellent start in musical • knowledge, under the guidance of Mr. Robert Parker,-,w<l doubtMess hundreds of them have continued the studv of music in a greater or less degree. Wellington's Amateur Operatic Society is easily tho first of its kirn! in New Zealand, tho Competitions Society leads all others by a hijj margin, and no doubt tho Choral Union will'as a. result' of !> its campaign so strengthen its membership that it, too. will have first place. The attainment of this end would bo a matter for comrr,-.filiation, niid it is -north a vigorous effort on tho part of all supporters of pood music. Whilst the matter is being raised into prominence just now, I suggest to the secretary of the Choral Union that he. too., should ask the liberty of a littlo of vonrspace to tell 11s how* and where enrolment may be effected, amount of subscription, etc.—l am, etc., WELLINGTON BORN.
