INFLUENZA
POSITION IN AUCKLAND PROVINCE MANY COUNTRY SCHOOLS CLOSED By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, April 23. Thirty-seven cases of influenza'; only ono being severe, were reported in the Auckland health district during the i' 4 hours ended at noon to-day. "There is a pretty widespread epidemic of influenza in the north, nnd we have, accordingly decided to close tho school* in tho Whiingarei, Bay of Islands,, and Hokiariga districts lor tho next weeK." stated Dr. Mackgill (District Health Of- 1 Deer) to-day. "I can say nothiug about) numbers, but all the doctors in the districts named are notifying cases freoly. There are one or two serious cases, but no more than arise in the ordinary course of mild influenza." Deferring' to influenza among the Maoris at the Rotorua camp, Dr. Makgill stated that the cases were all very mild, so much like simple colds that they scarcely warranted being diagnosed as influenza.
