A largely-attended public dinner was held to ci'lebmte tho arrival of the first locally-owned ocean l:ner, the Poverty Bav Meat Company's steamer Admiral Coiirington. Speeches eulogising the enterprise were made by Mr. W. D. Lysuar, M.P.. chairman of directors of the certipany; Dr. Chappie, ex-member of the House of Commons; Canta'ii Plunket, Lloyds' representative; Mr. C. A. J)o Latour, chairman of directors of the Gisborno Sheep-farmers' Company; and others: Great enthusiasm was' shown by the six hundred guests.
