Smith and Harris shared the wickets for Murphy's. The match Y.M.CA. v. Petone was played at the Hutt. Pctnue batted first and scored 59 runs (Martin 20, Parrant 10). Henderson, eight wickets for 24, and Edmund, two wicket's for 12, secured tho wickets. Y.M.CA. Ecored exactly tho some total in their first innings, viz., 59 v (White 17, E. Henderson 13). Burrows, ' nine for 33. and. Corner, one for 25, secured the wickets. Petone in their eeeond attempt only reached 32 (Martin 19). Henderson, six wickets for 11, and White, four for 18, did the damage. With 15 minutes to bat Y.M.O.A. went in and lost four wickets for 13 runs. Yarrow;, two for 5 runs, and Corner, one for 7. Y.M.CA. now want 20 runs with six wickets in hand to win the raattfli. Third Crade B. College .4 in their first innings against St. Thomas's made 45 (Smaller 21). St. Thomas's replied with 109 for four wickets (G. Bell 49, not out, Gardner 34, Bolt 12). College 4's second innings realised 59 (Fordc 13, Price 12) thus leaving-St. Thomas's winners by an innings aud 5 runs. Bowling for St. Thomas's. Lawrence took ■ 14 wickets for 51 runs, G. Bell two for 18, Bradshaw three for 24, and for College O'Connor took four wickets for 32 1 runs. >■ TAX DEPARTMENT V. GOVERNMENT INSURANCE DEPARTMENT. A very enjoyable half-day match, which was played at Kelburn Park between the nbovn Departments, ended in favour of the Tax team by 36 runs and three wickets. The Insurance eleven, who were cap- ' tinned*by W. Spcncc, started badly, but afterwards made a fair recovery, and were finally dismissed for 135 (Kelling 3l ough 8. Clcary 11, M'Lean 15. Scarbor--1 ough 8, Clcary 8, cxtrns 29). I'olling who . played right through the innings, gave a . nottnln if. diflicult chances during his two . hours' stay at the wickets. Afternoon tea, provided by tho "Tax" ladies, added to the pleasure of the contest. This match revived a fixture that was Inaugurated in 1882 and lapsed in ICSC.
