A high wind and rough track militated against fast times. Wairarapa retained the M'Villy Shield defeating Wanganui by '86 lioints to 76. Eastev Monday will provide for the followers of athletics another day's outing at the Basin Reserve, where the New Zealand Inter-University Tournament will b» held. This tournament is by the way of an athletic contest between the members of the four univcrsities-Ota<;o, Canterbury. Auckland, and Victoria (Wellington)—for a points shield, and the winners of the events hold the respective w ->w Zealand University championships. The programme consists of the same events as the New Zealand Championships programme, and in addition there will be several open events for local amateurs, so that the day should provide an excellent entertainment for 'the- followers of the track. The competitor? from the various universities arc nil athlete*of no mean merits and men who rand amongst, the. best amateurs in the district. The Wellington • representatives in»ii"le such athletes as Aitken,' Jackson, Cillespie. Barker, and .Tracy, and the other representatives are of similar calibre. The Otago tca;i includes Mac-kersey and Campbell, two South Island representative, footballers, and Davidson, the last year's Wellington College footballer and sprint champion. There is also a North Island representative footballer in V. XV. i Wilson, the wing-three-quarter in tho Auckland team. Clirlstchuroh, March 27. Lancaster Parle was officially reopened '•v Sir Francis Bell this afternoon. Sir Francis Bell stated that the pork had been vested in H.M. the-King, and Jic was there to perform the act of finally dedicating the park to the nubile use. He conceived it was an honour to say the final words, "Hero is a place free from debt, with a board' properly constituted with funds and with a ground fit for any sport in tho world. I declare it open, or rather reopened, under the new management, and under happier auspices than ever In the past. I wish tho board and you nil good fortune."
