;By Teieeraoh-Press Association.
Christchurch. March 21.
At a meeting to-day of the North Canterbury Farmers' TJnion. the following motion was carried: "That in view of the volume and value of our Dominion exports of wool, meat, dairy produce, etc.,' it is essential that some provision should bo made for safeguarding the interests of Dominion producers when the existing contracts with tho Imperial Government, terminate.. To this end this executive suggests to the Dominion Government the advisability of retaining Sir Thomas Mackenzie in tho capacity of Produce Commissioner for New Zkland, being of opinion that tho wide experience gained during many years of close connection with our trade enl commerce eminently qualifies him to fill-this position."
