Country butchers' ox hides realised a« much aB 2s. per lb and cow.hides .Is. i .10d. Calfskins sold as high as 4s. per l ' lb. Very heavy catalogues were submitted, including a large .percentage ot freezing works' hides. Exports expressed the opinion that the selection was. the largest and best that had been offered in Auckland for some years. Under lb* new reculat ; ons tanners.have a preemptive right to take whatever hides they require at the .price, determined at tho sales.
