The race for the Turnbull Cup, handsome, silver trophy presented to tl Port Nicholson Yacht Club by tl executors of the late "Mr. A. H. A_ flying start was made at 3 p.m. The Waitangi took the lead, and was closely followed by the Marangi. At Halsweil the Waitangi set her spinnaker on the port side, but lost time through having to stand out into the channel to keep from jibing. Most of the other boats jibed over on. rounding. Marangi was first around the Pinnacle ibuoy at 3.40, closelv followed by Waitangi at 3.41 p.m.; Kotiri, failM; Ailsa; 8.42; Rona, 3.42.10; Wanderer, 3.42.50; V'ola, 3.42.75; Atalant.i, 3.43; Wairere. 3.45. Soon after hauling on the wind Atalanta went about and stood in to Knraka Bay; Marangi was next, closply followed by Kotiri. The rest of the fleet stood well up the eastern side of the channel. Marangi and Waitangi were having a ding-dong go, the, former sailing a splendid race, and disputing every inch of/the ground: with her-big'rival. Waitangi was first around the weather mark, lit 4.51.25: Maraniri. at 4 53.20; Kotiri, 4:56,20; Bona. 4.59.20; Atlanta.' fi.2.15; Ailsa, 5.3.25; Wanderer, 5.5.10, On the run home the positions, were unchanged, Waitangi crossing ihe finishingline at 5.27.8; Marangi, 5.29.55; Kotiri, 5.34.15; Bona. .5.37.15: . Bucholz's Wairere, 5. The winner was well handled by Mr. C. Hadfield, and was well nlaeed all through the race. Mr. .T. Glendall acted as handiennper and starter, and the judges were Messrs. A. -T.
