INDUSTRIAL INSURANCE
DEPARTMENTAL COMMITTEE'S STRICTURES. (Rec. March 18, 10.45(p.m.) I London, March 17. The report of the Departmental Committee on the business of industrial insurance companies and collecting societies has been issued. It makes a number of drastic recommendations. It points; out that the premiums on industrial policies in 1918 exceeded twenty-five mil-
lions sterling. The number of policies was fifty-ono million. Tho report declares that a great majority of policies effected lapse within a short time, and control of the organisation in the case of all lartre societies has been secured by agents. Therefore it argues that tho societies are conducted primarily in tho interests of aients. The report asseverates that reckless extravagance has been carried on under the forms of tlie > law, rendering the Board of Trade helplvrs to give protection to the insuring pinV lic. The report urges immediato legislation, proscribinpc reforms nnd increased control.—lmperial News 'Service,
