THE SHORTAGE OF BENZINE
AND THE FARMERS' NEEDS. Sir,—lf space permits, I beg to fen a few lines touching on the petrol question, which is pretty well the topic of conversation nowadays amongst all tnose who really need it. Now, who aro the peonlo who really must have benzinor They are. first and foremost, the drury farmers, especially those who are milking big herds, . where "there arc machine sheds. Then there are all the shearing, sheds: AVe know, of course, that shearing is over, but then we have criitching" coming on soon. Now, Sir, this is what caused m® to pen the above, i notice in to-day's Dominion' the that the Port Nicholson Motor-Boat Club . had postponed its launch race: Now,, these aro the townspeople who can spend Saturday and Sunday in plensnro, using up petrol, which should bo up in the country districts, and which would sare the'poor hard-work-ins' raßn or ! , tne nnt } from having to sit down to milk a herd of perhaps, well, say, at least 50 cows by hand, in many cases over 100 cows, with only three men or women to milk. It is nui'te time things were gone into properlv and the profiteers in benzino punished. I iiope. Sir. this will be taken up by others who are in the same'trouble in the country, and that through the medium of Thk Dominion, the farmers will make themselves heard, "for once in a whilg, and get all this "absolute rot' 'cut right out, such as "jo.v-riding," which we'hear so much about in the newspapers;- then when we hear of motor launch raceswell we think that is absolutely ofer the 'limit." Hoping that someone more able with tho pen than I will take tills nm ' 6tC - PARMER. Palmerston North.
