ALLEGED THEFT OF PETROL
By Telegraph—Press Aesooiation. Invercaroill, March 17. Mr. G. Cruikshank, S;M., was occupied for tho greater part of tho day with th# hearing of a number of charges of theft of petrol. William Joseph Lyons, William Holland, and William Edward Duthie were charged with. ,on or about PebrunTj 19, 'stealing 75 cases of motor spirit,- valued at .Clfll ss„ the property of J. G. Ward and Co. Lyons and Holland weru charged with on tho samo date breaking and entering the premises of Eriscoo and Co., and stealing therefrom 75 cases of motor "snirit, valued at i£lol 55., the property of J. G. Ward ana Co. and another.. Duthie wns charged with stealing, on February 12, 52 cases of motor spirit, the property of J. Ct. Ward and Co. Duthie was further charscd with receiving 75 ensefi, knowing* them to have been dishonestly obtained, and with receiving 52 . under similar ciroumstances. The evidence showed that Ward and Co. a total shortage of 4-W cases in portion of a shipment of 5500 eases stored in Bwstoeg warehouse, of which they had the use. The police stated that 127 oases had beon traced and-58 recovered. Tho petrol baa been enrted owfiv from the stcve, in which Holland was employed. Several taxi proprietors evidenc© ns ro purnhnsing larg(> fjunntities of petrol from Lyons and Duthie. Accused reserved their dcfencc, and were committed lor trial on all charges.
