Her ninny friends in tho Wellington nnd Manawiitu districts will regret to hear ,of the death, at her residence, 151 Brougham -Street, -on 'Wednesday afternoon of Mrs. J. Hurley. The deceased lady was a well-known resident of Manaka for a number of years, and came to live in- Wellington about eighteen months ago. She was the only surviving {laughter -of the lain Captain Henry Lynch, one of the enrlv pioneers of the Hutt district. The late Mrs. Hurley was held in the highest esteem .for her many kindly qualities and charitable disposition, nnd the sineerest sympathy will be felt for her husband, five daughters, and one son (the Rev. Father Hurloy, S.M.,- Timaru) in their loss.

In the Featherston Presbyterian 'Church on Wednesday, Miss Ivy Eleanor 'l'ait, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. J3. 'l'ait,. well-known Featherston citizens, was married to Mr. John, Malcolm' M'Lean, of Duncdin—now a Featherston resident—and late of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, who served in Palestine during the early stages of the war. The ceremony was performed by (lie Kcv. If. 11. Catherwood, a|id the church was prettily decorated for the occasion, l'hc bride, : who was given awav by her father, .was attended by Mis; Catlierino Tait (n cousin), and little Misses Aisla and Mavis .M'Kenzie (nieces), acted as (lower girls. Mr, Charles Weenink was lvst man. Mr. and Sirs. .M'Lean left for Wellington in the afternoon. Miss Chc-nnells, of Mnsterton, is leaving 011 a trip to England next week, sailing in the Meg-antic. Mr. and Mrs. TYSluiilcr Weston are to leave Wellington 'on March 18 for Sydney lo connect there with a steamer for Cliiim and Japan. Tbry will make an. extensive tour of Ihe Straits Settlements and Java whilst abroad. Mr. W. B, Lets (malinger in Wellington for Bing, Harris, and Co.) and Mrs. Lees are also to make a trip to the East at the same time. Mr. and Mrs. Livisan, of Sydney, who have just completed an enjoyable tour, of New Zealand, will leave for Sydney by to-day's steamer. Mesdamcs Smaille, Gorrie, and Miller (and daughter), of Seatoun, leave AVellington to-morrow by the Northumberland on a visit to Great Britain. Mr. A. Siiuni (of Kernot and Co.) and Mrs. Simm. of York Terrace, are to sail for England on the Megantie next week. J Mrs. Luke's at Home. ' Yesterday afternoon- Hie Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke) entertained the members of the Citizens' Service League at 1111 "at home" at "Treneere,"" her resi-dence-in Hiropi Street. The weather was delightful, and tho guests were entertained in. the garden, seats having been placed about the lawn, and a band stationed 011 the verandah of the house. Many guests we're present, and the afternoon was. passed very pleasantly in talking to . fine . another and wandering ground the gardens. A brief speech was made' 1 by Mrs. Luke relating to the work which had been performed by the Citizens' Service League during the war, and much appreciation was expressed, of the way-in which'. 'they had so heartily co-operateil. with her' in carrying out these activities Although the war was over it was not proposed to disband, as it was always possible that occasion might arise in which the services of the '. league would be very helpful.
