A NEW ROAD
OPENING UP TOWN BELT AT IvILBIIINIE. For a great ninny years the inviting lower slopes of the Town Belt at Kilbirhie have only been accessible to the public by certain cross strpets, the ends of which were fenced to pWent cattle wandering about the settled areas of the. suburb. A considerable improvement is being effected at the present time by the construction of a new (JCft. road that will run parallel to the Hell, along its eastern boundary in Kilbirnicj and with Moxham Avenue so that when it is completed, the land on one side of the rond will be Town Belt and on the other private property. Only a portion of this road is being constructed at present, under arrangement with the I'aii Estate, the property of which abuts on to the new road. The arrangement is on a 5050 basis—(lie estate to pay for the construction of 33ft., and the corporation for the other Sift.—the contribution being for the betterment of the land of the estate, which will have a frontage lo the new road as well as to Moxham Avenue, so facilitating the cutting-up process.
It is understood that the council is prepared to continue this road right along the Town Belt boundary under a similar arrangement with the owners, who=e values must increase by such a substantial improvement. Ultimately when a new traffic tunnel is provided through Mount Victoria it will debouch on to this road, which in the future is expected to give relief to the narrower Moxhain Avenue.
