Vice-Regal. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gon-ernl and Hie Countess of Liverpool who have been in residence in Christchureh for a considerable time, are expected to return to Wellington on Sunday next. News ha* l>een received in Wellington from Fiji that Captain C. E. Post of the Tutanekni, who had two of his ribs broken on board the vessel shortly after liis arrival at Suva last month with New Zealand troops, is progressing very faroura'bly. He is still in chaw of the steamer, and will bring her back to Wellington. Chanlain ' Winton, who returned bv the Afhenic. will leave bv the Paloonn for Newcastle, where he will meet his wife and fami'.v. He intends to return to the Dominion shortly.
Mr. B. T. Wray, who has resigned the position of agency manager for the Colonial Mutual Life Office, was entertained bv the staff in the .society's hoard room on Tn»s<»ay evening. On behalf of the New Zealand staff the resident secretary (Mr P D Leslie) presented Mr. Wray with a travelling rue. a >ase of pipes and a rroKl-mountcd fountain pen, and in addition a travelling cushion for Mrs. Wray.- Mr. Wray is leaving by the Tofu'a to-day for America.
Mr ,T Priestlev, of TChniidnllah. has been appointed jreneral secretary to the Sudnn United Mission. He is to leave New Zealand this we*V to take up his duties in Melbourne, the. hca< quarters „f the mission. Mr. Priestley has been in the War Expenses Office for some tune and was nreviouslv accountant to Messrs. TTnlt and Sons, Napier.
Mr W W. Tiowntrcc. who has been promoted'from the position of headmaster at. the Worser Bav School to that of headmaster at Blenheim, was tendered a farewell on Saturday evening at the Mirnmar Town Hall. Mrs. Rowntree had niwted to her an ebony toilet set, and Mr. Rowntree received a travc Img rug and a pair of brushes. The efts were accompanied by expressions of every good wish.
Mr G Tvellv. general manager of the Earmers' Co-onc-ative Company at Napier, accompanied bv Jlis. Kollv and family, is I™viu<t for London by the Port Caroline, which will sail to-morrow.
Mr. E. 11 Mnbin, wlu. was at one time rmnriermaster of the Dominion Rifle A«Xtion's at Trentham, and subsequently in command of a milita,} nrtnWishmont at Malta, was nvmtor to the Trentham rifle meeting this fleeh.
Mr T de Spong, of Dunedin, hns been appointed to act as iudec in Hie elocutionary section at the Masterton Comnctilions to be held m May.
There was a large gathering at the Newtown Church of Christ on luesdny evening, when Ihe incoming minister, Mr. P. Long, and his family were toiideied a welcome. Mr. M. Vickery, of the Newtown church, who presided, in welcoming Mr. Lew?, on behalf of the church, said that, for over two years tho church at Newtown had been without tho services of a minister. Messrs. E. J Marshall, representing tho nutt and Petone Churches of Christ, Ira Paternoster (Vivian Street), nnd representatives from Ihe auxiliaries of the Newtown church, also spoke. Mr. Leug, in reply. IhanW those present for Ihe splendid reception Hint had been accorded him. In receptions of'this nature, he remarked a «rcal deal was said about tho Church helping the preacher and tho the nreacher helping the . congregation, but it should be fully understood that all were working for God and humanity.
