. THE INQUEST. By Telegraph-Bpecial Correspondent. Masterton, March 8. The circumstances surrounding the death of Robert M'Kinnon, of Lausdnwne, until recently manager of Mr. R. O. Smith's Bideford Estate, were the subject of nn inquest held before Mr. E. G. Eton to-day. A verdict was returned that death was caused by a bullet fired from an automatic revolver while deceased was in a despondent state of mind. . Mary M'Kinnon, wife of deceased, gave ovidenco regarding a nervous breakdown suffered by her husband some time ago. Since tho breakdown deceased had been in very poor health, but had recovered a little latterly. On Saturday afternoon deceased appeared to be in his HOTmal condition, and that day had eaten his meals as usual. About two o'clock' witness went to town. She asked her hus< band to accompany her, but he said he would follow Inter on. He was then lying on the bed reading. An hour afterwards witness returned, and hearing groaning in one of the rooms, entered and found the deceased lying on the floor with ft revolver by his side. She immediately notified tho. police.
