THE WEEK-END IN PALMERSTON. By Telegraph—Spcciol Correspondent. . Palmerston North, March 8? There was quito a chapter of accidents in tho Mnnawutu district during the past week-end. On Wihakaronga Road, a car driven bv D. Campbell, of Trie firm of Campbell and Co.. carriers, of Wellington, turned completely over owing to a tyre bursting. One of tho occupants jumped clear. The driver was thrown to one side, and sustained a broken arm, whilo Scotland, tho well-known aviator, who chanced to be in the car was, with another passenger, 1 pinned' to the ground. It was some time before tho two men underneath wero released, but they escaped with a number of bad bruises. A collision occurred between a motorcar and a bicvcle in tho streets of Palmerston North, and Miss Thelma Stay, who was riding the bicycle, was knocked off her machine and dragged along under the motor-car. She sustained severe injuries that necessitated her removal to the hospital. There a slight operation had to bo performed. Miss Afav is progressing as well as could bo exnucted. On Sundav afternoon Mrs. Jane Pickering. an elderly woman, was riling a bicyclo in Palmerston North' Square when she wns struck by a motor-ear driven bv C. W. Blackburn, and was thrown to the ground unconscious. She was badlv cut about the head and face, and was removed ?o her home in a rather serious condition. She had somewhat recovered to-'<jiy. Two trans, one of which was following the other over the Fibihevbert Bridge comim? into Palmerston North, came into collision through the horse in the second trap getting out of control. Both vehicles were, overturned, but although the occupants were somewhat shaken and bruised, nono of them received serious injuries.
